Bridgerton fame left me so anxious I needed a therapist, says Phoebe

- By Eleanor Sharples TV and Radio Correspondent

SHE became an international celebrity thanks to the hit Netflix high-society drama Bridgerton. And, as the real-life daughter of TV aristocracy, Phoebe Dynevor may seem better equipped than most to handle stardom.

But the 26-year-old has revealed that the shock of overnight fame left her so ‘full of anxiety’ that she’s needed a therapist to keep her ‘grounded’.

The actress, who is the daughter of Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor, said she also meditates and walks every day as the pressure of fame has left her with a ‘fear of failure’.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said: ‘I don’t think anyone knows how to handle that [stardom].

‘I worry about everything. I’m full of anxiety. I have a fear of failure, letting someone down, contradicting myself. You see what it is for your mental health to be in the public eye.

‘I meditate, I have a therapist, I walk every day. There are things I do to ground myself because it’s quite hectic at the moment.’

Miss Dynevor became a household name as debutante Daphne Bridgerton in the first series of the Regency-era drama.

But she said she didn’t foresee how successful the programme was going to be and thought it would be ‘just another project’.

Miss Dynevor added: ‘I didn’t think anyone was going to care. We were all in lockdown, stuck at home and nothing changed. ‘In the first season, people were saying to me, “You know this could be huge,” but you don’t ever believe that, and you will never understand what it feels like until it happens to you. ‘It’s quite out-of-body and weird. It was only when we started being able to leave the house again and there were photographers outside – which was really scary – that I realised if I went out in my pyjamas, there might be someone taking pictures.’ Miss Dynevor, who is filming the second series of Bridgerton, is also set to make her film debut as the ceramic artist Clarice Cliff in upcoming biopic The Colour Room. Her comments came as she graced the front cover of the magazine’s November issue. In the shoot, she can be seen in a woollen green turtleneck top and skirt from Louis Vuitton. In another photograph in the series she pairs a red silk and cotton coat with kneehigh boots, also from the same designer. The November issue of Harper’s Bazaar is on sale from tomorrow.
