Account deadline
HMRC is urging customers who receive Child Benefit, Guardian’s Allowance and tax credits into Post Office card accounts to set up a new bank account by November 30 and let it know the details. The taxman will stop making the benefit payments into Post Office card accounts from December 1.

MORE pet insurance policies are covering emotional therapy for dogs who are suffering separation anxiety as their owners leave the house more post-lockdown. Analysis by Defaqto shows 44 pc of dog insurance policies now cover emotional therapy compared to 30 pc in February 2020.

COMPARE THE MARKET has relaunched its energy switching service after barring browsers last month. The comparison site was the first to block customers from looking for new energy tariffs when suppliers pulled dozens of deals amid surging wholesale gas prices. USwitch and GoCompare have also frozen their gas and electricity deal switches.
Short savings
AROUND one in four people with a household income of £100,000 or more have less than three months’ worth of savings. Research by investment firm Hargreaves Lansdown suggests more than one in ten households earning £150,000 a year do not have enough set aside to cover even one month of living expenses.
Student insurance
THe average student’s possessions are worth £1,733, yet less than a quarter have adequate insurance to cover them, Halifax says. Almost one in two students has had a laptop or mobile phone damaged, lost or stolen at some point with 16 pc saying it happened
at university.
Inheritance gap
WOMEN are leaving their families with £430million more inheritance tax to pay than men, according to Fidelity International. The investment firm also found 37pc of women said they did not understand the rules around inheritance tax, compared to 25 pc of men.
In hindsight
SOMe 3 pc of people say their biggest financial mistake was having children, while 4pc claim it was getting married, according to investment firm Hargreaves Lansdown. But the most common error made was not starting to save earlier, with one in six reporting this regret.
Travel comfort
HOLIDAYMAKERS with Direct Line or Churchill travel insurance can now make a claim if they are told to quarantine while abroad. Policyholders will also be covered if they cancel a trip because the Government is advising tourists against travelling to the country.
