‘There was an awful noise, fire and sparks... then we saw blood’

-

A PASSENGER who injured his arm and shoulder in the Salisbury collision described being ‘violently thrown about’.

Cameron Thrower, who was heading home after a Halloween party, needed hospital treatment and his arm is in a sling.

‘There was a most awful noise which I now know is the two trains hitting each other, then violently being thrown about as the trains collide,’ he told the BBC. ‘My train started going at an angle.

‘There’s this huge whoosh of fire and sparks.

It was quite scary seeing people with blood on their face and clothes.

‘We were in a hole in darkness and there was just panic. Time just stretches out and out and out and it was only when someone spotted the blue lights on the bridge that’s not far from the tunnel that there was any idea that help was coming.’

He added: ‘I think daylight brings about the seriousness of the situation. It kind of reinforces we kind of got really, really lucky, in that this wasn’t something so much worse.’
