Is hydrogen the fuel of the future?
ThANk goodness! At last, someone with common sense, practicality and vision. Lord Bamford’s article about the development of hydrogen vehicle engines (Mail) gives me hope and encouragement. he rightly describes hydrogen as an elegant solution to providing an alternative form of energy with much less expense and disruption to our lives and the environment. France and Germany have committed billions towards research and development of hydrogen power, while we have pledged only £2.5 million. surely this needs to change.

ForGeT Cop26 and the doomsday predictions about climate change. i am inspired by Lord Bamford’s research into hydrogen-fuelled vehicles.
GEOFF ROBB, York.
The excellent article by Lord Bamford shows where effort and money should be directed instead of ineffective heat pumps that few people can afford.

LorD BAMForD’s article should be compulsory reading for all politicians. electric cars throw up insurmountable problems and we have to be more realistic. Lord Bamford is a voice of measured reason who ought to be consulted by the Government.
CHRIS SHARP, Leeds. hYDroGeN power could be the way forward and makes far more sense than batteries that are heavy, inefficient, expensive and produced using precious natural resources.
MALCOLM SAMUELS, Llanelli, Carms.
LorD BAMForD admits to having failed his chemistry o-level. Perhaps that’s why he neglects to state where all the hydrogen is going to come from. one main source is steam reacting with methane. This requires energy and produces carbon dioxide. Another is passing electricity through water. But given that renewable electricity sources can’t meet current needs, the extra electricity for this is going to have to come from Co2-producing fossil fuels. his magic energy bullet misses its target.
