No Guardiola? No problem for City slickers

- By GEORGE GRANT

COVID-HIT Manchester City cruised into the fourth round of the FA Cup with teenage star Cole Palmer stealing the show at Swindon. Despite boss Pep Guardiola and seven firstteam players having to isolate after testing positive for the virus, City still managed to field a star-studded line-up that proved far too strong for their League Two hosts. Bernardo Silva tapped in the opener after fine work from Palmer, and Gabriel Jesus made it 2-0 before the half hour. Ilkay Gundogan made it 3-0 before the home side pulled one back through Harry McKirdy, but Palmer got the goal his performance deserved as City’s superiority told. Meanwhile, City are confident Raheem Sterling will sign a new deal before the summer. Sterling’s contract is due to expire in 18 months’ time and he had been toying with a move to Spain. However, he has had a change of heart and is set to commit his future to Guardiola’s side.
