First arrivals return as travel rules are relaxed
STROLLING through the airport, these Scots were among the first to arrive back home as a relaxation of rules on travel came into force.
People arriving in Scotland are still required to do a ‘Day 2’ test within roughly 48 hours of their return.
However, as of yesterday, cheaper lateral flow tests can be used instead of more costly PCR tests.
Debbie McCallum, 31, and David Lamond, 36, both from Paisley, were among the first people to benefit from the change and explained they only decided to go abroad due to the change in regulations.
They said: ‘We saw the announcement that England was scrapping PCR tests and assumed that Scotland would follow suit.’
However, other travellers did not manage to save on the expense as they had already booked their test before the change came in. Sean Malone, 53, from Elgin, who arrived in
Glasgow on a flight from Turin yesterday, said: ‘I think the change is good. Most people will still be fairly sensible and careful when they travel in.’
Margaret Carrigan, 61, from Glasgow, said: ‘It’s great the regulations have changed.’
The new rules allowing a lateral flow test rather than a PCR test on day two applies only to people who have had their second Covid jab.
