Stand f irm, Sir Keir
SIR Keir Starmer believes in a great many things but consistency does not appear to be among them. When he says, ‘I believe in the Union’, it sounds like a firm commitment to the continued existence of the United Kingdom.
Yet reports say Labour is poised to embrace ‘Devo Max’, which would reduce the UK to nothing more than a defence and foreign policy partnership.
If Sir Keir believes in the Union, he must reject a constitutional position that is independence-lite.
For his part, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar should insist on it.
