Q

I AM 78 and considering a procedure to remove under-eye bags. What advice could you give me?

A

WHEtHER you want to opt for a surgical or nonsurgical procedure, I would definitely select an oculoplastic (eye) surgeon to do the job, as they understand this complicated area best. Dr Sabrina Shah-Desai

(perfecteyesltd.com) recommends the following: ‘If the swelling is relatively minimal and the hollows are actually more significant than the bag, then expertly judged under-eye and tear-trough filler in the right places can smooth out the area. If the bags are prominent or you’re dealing with malar bags or festoons (swollen mounds on the lower eyelid, just above the cheek), filler will make the situation worse.

‘In this case, your doctor will discuss lower eyelid blepharoplasty (eye-bag surgery).’

this starts anywhere from £3,000 to £6,000, while fillers would be upwards of £750.

alternatively, Shah-Desai says moderately baggy skin can be tightened with radiofrequency microneedling (Morpheus8), ‘but results are variable and temporary, and a course of treatment can set you back £3,000.’

So, please select a reputable surgeon who also does nonsurgical tweakments to assess you and help you weigh up options.
