Send in the clowns to cheer sick children
LIKE Richard Littlejohn, I’m surprised that the comedian in residence at the university of bristol has been requested by the nhS to provide taxpayerfunded comedy lessons to assist patients overcome trauma. Quite why a university requires a resident comedian is only one of the questions this raises. While I believe there is an element of truth in the expression ‘laughter is the best medicine’, alternative comedy normally means a bias in favour of Left-wing political viewpoints, which is rarely funny. however, there are charities that don’t receive any taxpayer funding but do invaluable work in raising the morale of hospital patients. one wonderful example is hearts & Minds, which sends clowndoctors into hospital wards to lift the spirits of seriously ill children and their families.
