SHE has already been touted as one of Hollywood’s most promising newcomers.

Now Emilia Jones is about to go head-to-head with one of pop’s biggest stars.

The 19-year-old daughter of singer Aled Jones is among the nominees announced yesterday for this year’s Baftas. She is up for leading actress – and her rivals include Lady Gaga.

Miss Jones was named as 2022’s Breakout Star To Watch by Vogue magazine for her role as a singer, the child of deaf adults, in Coda.

In a tweet thanking Bafta yesterday, she said: ‘Truly honoured to receive this nomination alongside such incredible actors. This is a day I will never forget.’

Lady Gaga is nominated for House of Gucci, in which she plays Patrizia RegKenneth

giani, who was jailed in 1997 for arranging the murder of her estranged husband, a member of the fashion empire.

They face competition from 60-yearold British actress Joanna Scanlan, nominated for her role as a widowed Muslim convert in After Love.

The film also receives a best director nomination for Kent-born Aleem Khan, who wrote the script.

Many big names have missed out this year, including Olivia Colman, Dame Judi Dench and – for directing – Sir Branagh. The stars of Spencer, about Princess Diana, and Bond blockbuster No Time to Die have also been snubbed by the academy.

However, Benedict Cumberbatch is among home-grown hopefuls. He has a leading actor nomination for cowboy film The Power of the Dog.

Cumberbatch, 45, faces competition from Stephen

Graham, for the chef drama Boiling Point, and Adeel Akhtar, for the Bradford-set love story Ali & Ava.

Miss Jones is not the youngest nominee. Twelve-year-old Woody Norman, who appeared in the last series of Poldark in 2019, is up for supporting actor for his role alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the road movie C’mon C’mon. Sciencefiction blockbuster Dune leads the way with 11 nominations, mostly in technical categories, while The Power of the Dog has eight and Branagh’s autobiographical drama Belfast has six.

These three vie for best film with Don’t Look Up, in which Leonardo DiCaprio plays a scientist trying to warn that the Earth is about to be destroyed, and controversial coming-of-age comedy Licorice Pizza.

Rebel Wilson will host this year’s awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall on March 13.
