PLAYER RATINGS

- BY MARK WILSON

B DORTMUND (4-2-3-1) TEAM AVERAGE 5.1

GREGOR KOBEL 5.0

Stuck out his left boot to deny Barisic early on but was then left helpless as the goals rained beyond him.

MANUEL AKANJI 4.0 Was terrified of Kent’s pace and direct running. Turned inside out by the winger in the build-up to fourth goal before being hooked.

MATS HUMMELS 5.0 Looked aghast at the chaos taking place around him yet could do little to stop it. Out-muscled by Morelos.

DAN-AXEL ZAGADOU 4.0 Missed a free header, conceded a penalty for handball and scored an own goal by deflecting in Morelos’ shot.

RAPHAEL GUERREIRO 6.5 Tried to surge forward on the left before switching flanks. Brilliant strike to give Dortmund hope for second leg.

MAHMOUD DAHOUD 6.0 Nice passing at times but not enough to prevent him from being outshone by Rangers in midfield.

AXEL WITSEL 4.0 Looked pretty casual in his approach. Coach Rose clearly wasn’t impressed as the Belgian was replaced at the break.

JULIAN BRANDT 4.5

Wandered across the width of the pitch, but didn’t exert much influence at all before making way.

MARCO REUS 5.5 Couldn’t place his stamp on the game. Produced the odd impudent touch, although not in areas that could truly hurt Rangers.

JUDE BELLINGHAM 7.0 No takers for a superb first-half delivery he fired through the six-yard box. Briefly made it 3-1.

DONYELL MALEN 5.0 Hardly got a sniff due to Rangers’ excellent defending and made way for Tigges with 22 minutes left.

JAMES TAVERNIER 8.0 Nerveless conversion from the penalty spot by the Rangers captain who also supplied the corner for the second goal.

CONNOR GOLDSON 7.5 A reassuring presence as Dortmund tried to turn up the heat, Goldson worked in tandem with Bassey to deny their hosts.

CALVIN BASSEY 8.0 Terrific effort. Aggressive throughout, he used his strength to stop Malen netting from close range in the second period.

BORNA BARISIC 7.0 Hesitant when unable to convert a golden early chance, firing too close to Kobel, but really grew into the game

RYAN JACK 9.0 A quite outstanding show. Passing, movement and timing of challenges were exemplary. What a difference he makes. JOHN LUNDSTRAM 8.5 Put Rangers three up. Formed the high point of a performance packed with excellent positioning and calm interceptions.

SCOTT ARFIELD 7.0 Timed his forward surges well in typically intelligent fashion. Invested a huge amount of energy before being withdrawn.

RYAN KENT 9.0 Tortured Dortmund. Produced some brilliant pieces of skill to create the third and fourth goals in superb display.

ALFREDO MORELOS 9.0 Tapped in his 28th Euro goal for Rangers, forced an OG and did so much more leading the line.
