Locals’ fury at ‘pathetic’ pop-up bank with no cash
MOST people visiting the bank would expect a polished and professional environment in which to conduct their business.
But for residents in one Highland town, a table and chair in a community hall is all they have been left with to serve their banking needs.
Locals in Thurso have slammed a ‘pathetic’ pop-up TSB designed to replace a town centre branch earmarked for closure on Wednesday.
Highland councillor Mathew Reiss said banking chiefs should be ‘ashamed of themselves’ over the once-a-week service which opened on April 5.
The move follows the bank’s controversial decision to close its Traill Street premises as part of plans to shut 70 branches across the UK.
TSB’s information board at the pop-up informs locals that no cash will be kept at the facility.
The Thurso branch will now close despite a survey that challenged TSB’s claims about the reduced number of customers at the town centre branch.
A petition with more than 330 signatures has also been set up by councillor Struan Mackie.
He said: ‘It is incredibly disappointing to see the “future of banking” for TSB customers relegated to a table and chairs in a community hall.’
