Wise drive for votes
GOOD to hear at least one political party in Scotland stand up for the country’s motorists.
The Scottish Conservative Party this week promised a range of pledges to drivers in its manifesto if it makes gains in the local council elections. They include abolishing parking charges in council-owned car parks at the weekend, opposing the workplace parking levy and road tolls, and introducing a fund to tackle the dreaded potholes that appear to be a feature of just about every road in Scotland.
In a country where driving has become an increasingly dirty word thanks to the narrow-minded zealotry of the SNP and the Greens, this feels important. Neither party appears to understand that you cannot ban cars in a nation where much of the population cannot access public transport. Worse still, for those who can, the system is not fit for purpose. Thank heavens for a bit of common sense at last.
