BLAZING in the hills near Kyle of Lochalsh, this massive fire flared as dry weather created tinderbox conditions.
Firefighters spent more than 24 hours tackling the moorland inferno at Erbusaig, Ross-shire, after it took hold on Wednesday at 10am. A helicopter was drafted in yesterday to water-bomb the blaze, which had a three-mile front. There were no reports of anyone being hurt.
Firefighters were also called to wildfires in the Bayble area of the Isle of Lewis, as well as at Borgie and Plockton in the Highlands on Wednesday.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency yesterday issued its first water scarcity report of 2022, with the South of the country at the early warning stage and levels in Fife and Angus ‘particularly low’.
