Judge gives rapist ‘life’
A VIOLENT rapist has been given a form of life sentence with a punishment part of just over three years.
Richard Stewart, 9, repeatedly raped two women during attacks.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Boyd of Duncansby told Stewart he had committed ‘forceful and often violent rapes against vulnerable young women’.
The court heard Stewart, formerly of Dumfries, poses a high risk of reoffending.
Lord Boyd imposed an Order for Lifelong Restriction on Stewart. He must serve a 40month term before he can seek release.
OLR prisoners are not often let out because they are handed down for the worst violent and sexual offenders.
