Eric and Ernie’s ‘lost’ tapes set for DVD release

FANS of Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise were delighted when lost tapes of their classic TV show were found.

Now they can watch them from home – as they’re released on DVD for the first time.

The comedy duo recorded the first series of their hit BBC programme The Morecambe And Wise Show in 1968. However, all eight episodes were feared lost after they were disposed of in the 1970s to make space in the broadcaster’s archives.

Now, after seven years of restoration, they are being released on DVD for the first time along with a one-off special from 1970. All but one of the episodes have been restored to their full colour, according to the BBC, which carried out the project with Queen Mary University of London.

The duo, pictured right, starred in the show for 13 series until 1977. The collection, titled Morecambe And Wise: The Lost Tapes, will be available from June 6.
