Russia: We’ll nuke Britain into the depths of the sea

Propaganda chief ramps up rhetoric with chilling warning

A KREMLIN-backed TV host has urged Vladimir Putin to drown Britain out of existence with a nuclear strike that would create a radioactive tsunami.

Dmitry Kiselyov, known as ‘Putin’s mouthpiece’, made the horrific threat during prime-time viewing as the war of words over Ukraine took another dark turn.

The propagandist said Russia’s Poseidon nuclear weapon would trigger a 1,600ft radioactive tidal wave, effectively wiping Britain off the face of the Earth.

Kiselyov justified his sickening threat by falsely claiming Boris Johnson had threatened to launch a nuclear attack against Russia. His remarks came after days of worsening rhetoric from Russia – and US officials saying they want to ‘weaken’ Russia, statements interpreted by Moscow as posing a threat to the country. The

exchanges echo the collision between London and Moscow just days into the war. On February 28, Putin put Russia’s nuclear forces on high alert after comments by Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.

The Kremlin said her remarks about possible ‘clashes’ between Nato and Russia over Ukraine were ‘unacceptable’. The Foreign Office insisted nothing Miss Truss said warranted such rhetoric or escalation.

Kiselyov told his viewers that Russia should first strike with its hypersonic missile known as Satan-2, before deploying the Poseidon – which can carry a 100-megaton warhead, several times the strength of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.

He said an explosion offshore would ‘raise a radioactive tidal wave which would plunge Britain to the depths of the oceans, raising a giant wave 1,640ft high’.

The surging water – reaching almost halfway up Scafell Pike in the Lake District – would contain ‘high doses of radiation’ turning what is left of Britain into a ‘radioactive desert’, he gleefully predicted. Appearing in front of a graphic showing the UK being erased from the map, he said: ‘This tidal wave is also a carrier of extremely high doses of radiation. Surging over Britain, it will turn whatever is left of them into radioactive desert, unusable for anything. How do you like that prospect?’

Russia has stepped up its nuclear threats in recent days as its army has made slow progress in pushing back Ukrainian troops in the east of the country.

Poseidon is a 65ft remotely guided weapon in development that is a blend of a torpedo and a drone. Moscow claims it is unstoppable by current defences, and could be used to destroy coastal cities.
