What if Putin isn’t bluffing on nukes?

- G. JoNeS, Birmingham.

I AGREE with Stephen Glover: what makes the Prime Minister so sure Putin is bluffing over his nuclear threats to Britain? I fear we are in great danger. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss’s call to push Russia out of the whole of Ukraine puts Britain at risk. By all means support Ukraine, but not to our detriment. The EU and Nato should have acted years ago as soon as Crimea was invaded. It was obvious that a diplomatic effort was required and an appreciation of why Russia wanted access to Crimea to support its Baltic Fleet. Russia is a dangerous opponent and absolute caution is required before the world is set alight.

STEPHEN GLOVER is one of the few people talking sense. All of the tough, unconcerned talk is about Boris Johnson trying to restore his position, and Liz Truss and Ben Wallace jockeying to replace him. To be honest, I put the lives of children in Britain above the lives of anyone in Ukraine. Why is President Zelensky egging on someone to heave a nuclear bomb at Russia, never mind the inevitable retaliation? Britain’s concrete nuclear bunkers, the Royal Observer Corps and Civil Defence were stood down years ago. In the event of a nuclear attack, what’s left of the Armed Forces will just have to try to keep survivors from our cities flooding into the countryside looking for food and shelter. Fat chance!

PUTIN must have had a good laugh at Stephen Glover’s article. One mention of a nuclear threat and the West turns to jelly. We should be telling Putin his threats will not deter us from assisting Ukraine in any way we choose and that any escalation by way of the use of weapons of mass destruction or attacks on a

Nato country will give us no other

choice than to enter the conflict. President John F. Kennedy was the last leader in the West who knew how to treat bullies. The U.S. is now a toothless tiger. aNtHoNy latter, london NW3.

JUST to get his own way, is Putin really prepared to turn the planet into a radioactive wasteland? The ego and madness of one deranged man.

THE free world must not allow Putin to think he can use bully-boy tactics to threaten war with the West. This tyrant must be faced down otherwise we will live under constant threat and intimidation. We must make the hardest of choices if we want to live in peace.

LIZ TRUSS and Boris Johnson are playing a dangerous game of nuclear bluff with Putin. They will be hiding in their bunkers while the rest of us fry. iaN HarriNGtoN, axminster, devon.

SOMEONE please tell Liz Truss to stop banging the war drum. Our response has been measured and sensible. Ukraine deserves our support, but it is not a Nato member. The Foreign Secretary’s comments are inflaming an already tense situation with a Russian leader who is unpredictable and dangerous.
