SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR RAMSAY, SAYS BOSS

- By GRAHAM SWANN

ABERDEEN boss Jim Goodwin claims Calvin Ramsay is returning to the form which has made him one of the world’s best young full-backs. The 18-year-old continues to be the subject of intense transfer scrutiny, with Liverpool reportedly leading the race to land the Dons star for around £3million. Fellow Premier League club Leeds United have also been credited with an interest, while Serie A outfit Bologna saw a £4.8m offer knocked back in January. Ramsay has been a revelation for Aberdeen amid their dreadful season which has seen them finish in the bottom six of the Premiership. The right-back has made 39 appearances for the Dons and scored one goal since being introduced to the first team by former manager Stephen Glass. Goodwin, who replaced Glass in February, believes Ramsay is hitting new heights after his campaign was disrupted by injury and ongoing speculation over his future. The youngster, who last week won the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award, missed two months of the season after picking up a thigh injury against Hibernian in October. But following his latest appearance for the Dons in Saturday’s 1-0 win against bottom-club Dundee at Pittodrie, Goodwin insists Ramsay is returning to his best form and will continue to attract admirers. ‘I know there’s a lot of interest in Calvin,’ said Goodwin. ‘I’m not aware of what clubs are interested in him. ‘With him winning the writers’ award during the week and being up for other awards, that is going to generate more interest. ‘Prior to January, Calvin was probably one of the best young full-backs in the world. ‘He had a little dip in form. Whether that was because his head was turned in January with whether he was moving or not moving. ‘What happens in the summer will happen. Every player has got valuations. If someone comes in and are very serious about taking a player, then obviously we will have to consider every option.’
