LEIPZIG SLUMP TO GLADBACH DEFEAT AHEAD OF EUROPA SEMI-FINAL CLASH

- MARK WILSON

RB LEIPZIG last night slid to a 3-1 defeat against ten-man Borussia Monchengladbach ahead of their Europa League showdown at Ibrox. Domenico Tedesco picked a strong side for the away Bundesliga fixture — despite it falling just 72 hours before the semi-final second leg against Rangers. Breel Embolo put Gladbach into an early lead before Christopher Nkunku levelled on 36 minutes but Jonas Hofmann restored the hosts’ advantage just before half-time. Centre-back Nico Elvedi was dismissed on 64 minutes for bringing down Nkunku, but Gladbach added to their lead through Hofmann with 13 minutes remaining. Leipzig hold a 1-0 first-leg lead ahead of Thursday’s clash with Rangers. ‘We’re giving out too many gifts at an important stage of the season,’ warned Tedesco.
