Cara goes for gold (and very little else) at glittering gala
THE theme was the Gilded Age – and the world’s A-listers took the dress code to heart as they paraded up the red carpet at the annual Met Gala.
Glitter and gold were on full display as the stars arrived at the fundraising event in New York.
Many tried to outdo each other as they recreated the look of the city’s late 19th century high society – among them model Cara Delevingne, 29, who whipped off her Christian Dior blazer to reveal she had taken on the gilded concept literally by covering herself in gold body paint.
Risque sequined outfits were the order of the night, with actress Lily James, 32, managing to wow in not one but two Versace dresses after changing out of an embellished silver gown into a daring bright pink shift dress held together by safety pins.
Kate Moss, 48, attended the gala – one of the biggest fashion events of the year – with her daughter Lila. Mum was in an off-the-shoulder black velvet tuxedo dress while 19-year-old Lila wore a sheer diamondstudded dress by Burberry.
Naomi Campbell, 51, kept the glitter theme going in face gems and diamond necklace, while British actresses Emma Corrin, 26, and Jodie Turner-Smith, 35, both wore in Gucci.
And co-host Blake Lively, 34, stood out in a billowing Versace copper strapless gown.
One star updated the Gilded Age theme to 1962 – reality star Kim Kardashian, 41, in the dress last worn 60 years ago by Marilyn Monroe when she famously sang Happy Birthday, Mr President to John F Kennedy.
Monday’s gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where tickets cost £24,000, returned to its usual May slot after a pandemic-affected past two years.
