Teens who don’t eat even one apple a day

-

MOST British teenagers do not eat the equivalent of an apple a day, research shows.

A team asked 9 2 pupils aged 11 to 15 in the West Midlands what they had eaten the day before.

The study, presented to the European Congress on Obesity, found seven in ten teenagers do not even eat 100g of fruit each day – equivalent to around one small apple. Nine in 10 do not have enough veg and 73 per cent eat too much sugar.

Dr Ankita Gupta, from the University of Birmingham, said governments must promote diets that are good for health and the planet. ‘We tend to stick to the dietary habits we develop as children,’ she added.
