Record 1,800 are bed blocking

-

BED blocking is at a record high with more than 1,800 patients delayed in hospitals across Scotland last month.

The latest NHS figures reveal 1,836 people had their discharge from hospital delayed as of March 22, largely due to infection control measures holding up admission to care homes.

Scottish Tory social care spokesman Craig Hoy said: ‘These latest figures are another damning indictment of the SNP’s broken promises and continued inaction on delayed discharge. Patients who are desperate to return home to their own communities are suffering longer delays as a result of SNP inaction.’

A Scottish Government spokesman said: ‘During the pandemic we have continued to work with health and social care partnerships to reduce delays in people leaving hospital.’
