GP blames workload for his bad driving on busy A90
A DOCTOR whose slow driving held up traffic on a busy dual carriageway claimed he was exhausted from over-working.
Locum GP Jing Liu blamed his erratic driving on a workload that had seen him consult with 60 patients that day.
The 33-year-old was seen pulling out to overtake other vehicles on the A90 but he then failed to accelerate enough to pass the inside lane traffic.
He was fined £450 and handed four penalty points at Perth Sheriff Court yesterday after he admitted driving carelessly on June 3 last year.
The court heard Liu was driving his Nissan Juke near Glencarse, Perthshire, at 40mph in a 70mph lane.
Fiscal depute Joanne Ritchie said a witness called police and Liu was traced at his home in Perth a few days later.
Solicitor Steven Farmer, defending, told the court: ‘He accepts that driving at inappropriate speeds in the outside lane can cause frustration for other drivers. He accepts that it was inconsiderate.
‘But on this occasion, he had a very long day and was very tired. On this particular day, he described his work as “literally non-stop”.’
Sheriff Francis Gill allowed Liu to keep his licence.
He told him: ‘You have accepted that you should not have driven in the manner that you did.
‘But I take into account that you have no previous convictions and a clean licence.’
