Harbour a safe haven for buyer with £500k
IT is a historic haven that at one time formed part of Scotland’s thriving fishing industry.
Now one of the most northerly harbours on mainland Britain has been put up for sale with a price tag of half a million pounds.
Sandside Harbour near Thurso, Caithness, includes a bothy where fishermen once found shelter from storms, and comes with 4.7 acres of land. Built in 1830 by Major William Innes, the private stone harbour is next to a small beach and cliffs which offer far-reaching views towards Orkney and over the Pentland Firth.
It also has two L-plan piers and a slipway from which boats can be launched.
The harbour is being marketed by Rettie, which is seeking offers over £500,000. The agent’s listing states that the harbour is ‘in need of complete refurbishment’ and says it offers ‘residential development opportunities’, subject to planning consent.
It adds: ‘Immediately adjacent to the residential dwellings and harbour are spectacular white sand beaches surrounded by dramatic cliffs and inlets with breeding wildlife and birdlife.’
