Celtic running rule over Hammarby’s Jeahze

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

CELTIC have run a scouting check on coveted Hammarby left-back Mohanad Jeahze. The Parkhead side are preparing to strengthen in a number of positions this summer. On the cusp of a £40million windfall via qualification for the group stage of the Champions League, Ange Postecoglou is in the market for full-backs on both sides, a ball-playing centre-half, wingers and a striker. Iraq international Jeahze was watched in Monday night’s goalless draw with Malmo in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

Booked early in the game, the 25-year-old had to be subbed with 22 minutes left to play amidst fears of a red card. Speaking afterwards, he admitted: ‘The fourth official told our manager that I was close to getting a red card. They said if I made one more foul I would get a second yellow card, after the one I picked up in the first half. ‘The Malmo players were shouting for the ref to give me a second yellow card after a couple of fouls I did, so it was probably best I was subbed.’ Asked about speculation over a move to Glasgow, Jeahze had previously said: ‘I can’t say much about that. ‘I’ve always been very clear. If I am going to leave Hammarby it will be for something better than Hammarby. I love it here.’ Celtic are also expected to trigger a £6.5million option to buy Portuguese winger Jota once the Premiership title is wrapped up. The on-loan Benfica star is keen to stay in Glasgow, with Celtic in pole position to make the deal permanent.
