Quarter of litter ‘linked to 3 firms’

-

ALMOST a quarter of branded litter comes from only three firms, a study suggests.

Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Heineken products made up 23 per cent of brand name waste found during a clean-up project.

Some 85,326 pieces of rubbish were recorded in the UK last year by users of the Planet Patrol app, which has produced three annual reports on their finds. In all three, Coca-Cola litter was most common, accounting for one in ten pieces.

A Heineken UK spokesman said it was already removing plastic from its packaging. A Coca-Cola spokesman said: ‘We don’t want to see any of our packaging end up where it shouldn’t.’ PepsiCo declined to comment.
