SHE has been lapping up rave reviews for her one-woman play in the West End.

But Jodie Comer was last night recognised for her screen talent – as she scooped the best actress prize at the Bafta television awards.

The Killing Eve star, 29, was honoured for her role in Channel 4’s Help, about the care crisis during the coronavirus pandemic. After she collected the accolade, Miss Comer, who oozed elegance in a long, black high-split dress with button detail and a plunging neckline, thanked carers who helped researchers.

‘The biggest reward is that they felt truly represented with a telling of this story,’ Miss Comer, who is currently in theatre show Prima Facie, told the audience at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Her Help co-star Cathy Tyson was also rewarded for her role in Jack Thorne’s one-off drama, as she was named best supporting actress. Meanwhile, Prince BBC1 Earthshot Prize environmental award ceremony won a Bafta – a first for a royal-run project. A source close to the Duke of Cambridge said of his best live event victory: ‘The duke is over the moon and couldn’t be prouder of the whole Earthshot team.’

Elsewhere, the only award voted for by the public was handed to Strictly Come Dancing’s Rose Ayling-Ellis, 27, who is deaf, and Giovanni Pernice, 31. The pair won the must-see moment award for their poignant Couple’s Choice silent dance to Symphony last year. EastEnders star Miss Ayling-Ellis said: ‘It is a very special moment for us because hopefully it showed how powerful TV can be, where it has actually introduced changes.’

BBC1 prison drama Time picked up the award for best mini-series while Sean Bean was named best leading actor for his role as prisoner Mark Cobden.

Among the attendees last night was Poldark actress Eleanor Tomlinson, who turns 30 this month. She took centre stage as she showed off her svelte figure in a floor-length white dress.
