Police investigating two deaths

POLICE are investigating the deaths of a young woman and a 30-year-old man.

Officers found the body of the mother-of-two – named locally as 26-year-old Aimee Cannon – after being called to a house in West Calder, West Lothian, on Saturday. Her death is being treated as unexplained.

Forensic teams were still at the scene near the local police station yesterday. Meanwhile, police launched a murder inquiry into the death of Liam Maloney in Edinburgh. He died in hospital on Saturday two days after being seriously assaulted on Niddrie Marischal Road.

Detectives, who originally described the death as unexplained, said last night that they are treating it as murder following a post-mortem examination.

Detective Chief Inspector Frank Travers said: ‘This appears to have been a targeted incident.’
