Main aims to play his part in revolution at St Mirren
A HAPPIER end to the campaign for previously struggling St Mirren was mirrored by the spectacular effort scored by striker Curtis Main on Saturday. Now the 29-year-old English striker is hoping to stick around to be part of the Buddies’ revolution which he reckons will unfold next season. A frustrated figure in Paisley for much of the preceding weeks and months, his 55th-minute scorcher in a 2-0 win over Dundee was only his second league goal of this term. It added to an early opener from Alex Greive after a howler of a pass across his own goal from Charlie Adam, and gave the overall impression that things are beginning to look better under new boss Stephen Robinson following a shaky start. Now the Northern Irishman wants to put his own stamp on the club this summer after succeeding Jim Goodwin — and Main, who played under him at Motherwell, is desperate to be part of it. ‘With a full pre-season under our belts and some help with recruitment as well, you will see a different St Mirren,’ he predicted. ‘It’ll be a challenging pre-season but it will be worth it. If I’m unleashed, I’ll be a better player. ‘This season has been challenging on a number of levels. Personally, I’ve not been able to show my true self. The last couple of games I’ve been able to go out and do just that. ‘I’ve got a tidy-up procedure in the summer that’s long overdue and that will hopefully allow me to kick on. ‘This season has been so frustrating. It’s not gone how we hoped but, hopefully under the new manager, it will be even better. ‘He knows exactly what I’m capable of and I’ll work as hard as I possibly can in pre-season to get fit.’ Main had claimed his only other league goal of the campaign against Aberdeen in September. ‘It’s great to be back on the scoresheet as it’s been a long time coming.’
