‘Blood’ hurled at Russia envoy

-

RUSSIA’S ambassador to Poland was drenched with blood-red paint by anti-war protesters as he paid tribute to Soviet soldiers yesterday.

Sergey Andreev, pictured, arrived at the Soviet Military Cemetery in Warsaw to lay flowers to mark Moscow’s Victory Day – celebrating the Soviet Union’s triumph over the Nazis during the Second World War.

But as he arrived, Mr Andreev was confronted by hundreds of activists, who hurled paint at him.

The group carried Ukrainian flags and chanted ‘fascist’ and ‘murderer’ at him, while some were dressed in white sheets smeared with blood. Protesters also marched throughout the Polish capital, bringing in a tank on a tractor and parking it in front of the Russian embassy on Sunday evening.
