Ibrox midfielder is in awe of Van Bronckhorst the tactical genius

-

Lundstram said: ‘I think, tactically, he’s just an absolute genius. ‘Honestly, his calmness is always there and he instils that through the squad. ‘The tactical switches — he puts me where he wants to, at the back and then back into midfield. But it seems to work and it’s just great. ‘I had a conversation with him and he said that’s where he could see me playing at times. I said that was absolutely fine, whatever he needed me to do was no problem at all. ‘That was very early doors, so I have no problem in doing what the manager wants me to do.’ Lundstram was rested for Sunday’s 2-0 win over Dundee United as Van Bronckhorst carefully manages his squad for the final Premiership matches prior to Seville. Eintracht Frankfurt lie in wait after overcoming Real Betis, Barcelona and West Ham United to reach their first European final since 1980. Oliver Glasner’s side have endured a disappointing domestic season and currently sit 12th in the Bundesliga but Lundstram insists Rangers will only focus on themselves. ‘We’re just happy to be there,’ he added. ‘Whoever it would have been — West Ham or Frankfurt. Getting there is a massive achievement for everyone. ‘But the players all want to win it — of course we do. Going into a final, you are not thinking anything else. That’s the mindset.’ Meanwhile, Malky Mackay has praised Rangers for bringing ‘gravitas’ back to the Scottish game through their remarkable Europa League exploits. The Ross County manager believes the positive reverberations and financial rewards funnelled into football in this country will restore respect in the eyes of many, far and wide. Mackay, whose side travel to Ibrox tomorrow, said: ‘What Rangers have achieved puts Scotland back on the map within UEFA and in Europe. ‘Recently, we’ve been involved in the Euros, but in terms of club football there will be raised eyebrows across Europe that a Scottish team has got to a final. ‘It’s fabulous for our country, and it will help in terms of coefficients going forward over the next couple of years, helping other Scottish clubs. ‘It might even help the country’s solidarity payment, I don’t know, but I do know that it’s going to give gravitas to football in this country again.’
