Celtic supporters banned from Tannadice home end

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

DUNDEE UNITED last night cancelled over 100 tickets bought by Celtic fans hoping to gatecrash tomorrow night’s potential Tannadice title party. The Tayside club announced they had refunded briefs for the home section bought online ahead of the clash with Ange Postecoglou’s champions-elect. The Parkhead side are six points clear of Rangers with just two Premiership games remaining and they also boast a vastly superior goal difference over their Ibrox foes. A point would officially see Celtic crowned champions — a year after the club’s dreams of an historic tenth consecutive title went up in smoke as Rangers romped the Premiership under Steven Gerrard. And the prospect of seeing their side reclaim the trophy from their Old Firm rivals led to Celtic fans attempting to secure a seat

alongside the home fans for tomorrow night’s match. Following what was described as a ‘thorough investigation’, however, United cancelled tickets in the low hundreds that they believed to have been bought by Celtic fans. The club also warned that perimeter checks will be in place at Tannadice to ensure no away fans get into the home end. A statement read: ‘Dundee United have cancelled a number of tickets for Wednesday’s match with Celtic following a thorough investigation of all purchases for the Dundee United sections of Tannadice. ‘A refund has been offered on all cancelled tickets and barcodes on these tickets have been voided. ‘These tickets will not work on the turnstiles. ‘Supporters attempting to use voided tickets will be denied entry. ‘Celtic’s allocation for this match is completely sold out and online sales for all areas of the stadium have been suspended. ‘For this match, we will be conducting an outer security perimeter and supporters will not be permitted to enter the turnstile zone without producing a valid match ticket. ‘Anyone found to be in the wrong section of the ground will be ejected with arrangements in place to ensure the safety of all supporters. ‘These decisions have been taken in consultation with our ticketing staff, matchday operations team, Celtic and Police Scotland.’
