Is pub gossip key to banker killing?

- By John Paul Breslin

DETECTIVES investigating the death of a banker gunned down on his doorstep almost 18 years ago believe local pub gossip at the time could hold vital clues.

Police are working on a theory that a planning row may hold the key to finding Alistair Wilson’s killer.

The 30-year-old had objected to decking that had been built at the Havelock Hotel opposite his home in Nairn before he was killed in November 2004, days after the hotel was told of his formal complaint.

Police said his objection was discussed in the hotel bar days before his murder.

Detective Superintendent Graeme Mackie said: ‘We want to know what was being said about it and who else was there as this may be significant.’
