CHARLES-COOK EYES BIG UPSET

- By ALASDAIR FRASER

REGAN CHARLES-COOK admits Rangers’ European achievements will inspire Ross County when they step out at Ibrox in search of a first-ever victory over tonight’s hosts. The Premiership’s top scorer is full of admiration for the way Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men have upset the apple cart on the continent this season. However, the 25-year-old Londoner insists County are out to create shockwaves of their own. While they have gleaned just one point off the Europa League finalists in three meetings this season, County have scored as many goals against the Ibrox side — seven — as Celtic have in five Old Firm derbies. A 3-3 draw in Dingwall and two 4-2 defeats, home and away, emphasise that Malky Mackay’s men have it in them to trouble the Govan team. In 18 meetings stretching back to 1966, County have managed only four draws. But CharlesCook, scorer of 13 league goals so far this term, said: ‘We have known all season that we can compete with any team in the league, with the squad we have. ‘They’re Rangers and it’s Ibrox, but we feel like we can go toeto-toe with anyone. We’ve built momentum since the start of the New Year and although the loss to Motherwell is a little bit of a setback, we can’t dwell on it. ‘We’ve got two big games in four days and we’ll go to

Rangers with chests out and heads held high, and look to do the club proud. ‘They are Europa League finalists and it shows how far Scottish football has come. ‘A lot of people have written off Scottish football, but next season potentially there will be two Champions League sides from this country. That’s a big advertisement for Scottish football. We’re all very proud. ‘With what they’ve achieved, if we can go toe-to-toe with them and come away with something from the game, it shows how far we have come as well. ‘People would have looked at us at the start of the season as “little Ross County”. We’re not so little right now.’
