Robinson will bring in four fresh faces in Saints revamp

- By ALAN DOUGLAS

Stephen Robinson is preparing to announce the signing of four new players on pre-contract deals as he continues to reshape his St Mirren squad for next season.

With the paisley club having secured their top-flight status, attention has turned to next term following a campaign that petered out badly following the departure of former manager Jim Goodwin to Aberdeen.

Robinson, buoyed by back-to-back wins over the division’s bottom-two clubs, St Johnstone and Dundee, revealed: ‘We have got four pre-contracts signed, which we will announce over the coming weeks, and I believe all four will enhance what we have already got.

‘I believe we still need two, maybe three, more. there will be a bit of business done when the market opens up in england.

‘As with every club, there are boys who have signed pre-contracts with other clubs, boys who have turned down contracts with ourselves, there’s boys that have signed contracts with ourselves.

‘We have purposely not announced it yet until we were 100-per-cent safe and looking to next season. We will inform everyone who has signed in the coming weeks. But every club is in the same, in a bit of limbo.’

Saints host Livingston tonight following consecutive wins and clean sheets but Robinson has stressed his team are down to the bare bones as the season reaches its climax.

‘I believe we have got the right balance in the last two games in terms of attacking and defending,’ said the paisley boss (pictured). ‘We are limited in numbers — really, really limited by injuries. In training we have 25 players but there are only 13-14 eligible to play for us because there’s nine out on loan.

‘So it’s about getting through those two games and trying to finish on a high.’

Meanwhile, tonight’s visitors Livingston have announced the pre-contract signing of hearts full-back Jamie Brandon on a three-year deal.

the 24-year-old has been on loan at Morton since January after injuries dented his chances of establishing himself at tynecastle.

Brandon, who has been capped by Scotland Under-21s, will join up with the Lions when they return for pre-season training in mid-June.

Manager David Martindale told the Livingston website: ‘Jamie will come in and compete in an area of the park where we need competition for next season, although he can also play in numerous other positions due to his versatility.

‘I believe his style of play fits into the ethos we have built at the club.’
