Troops shoot security guard ... then hit whisky

- From Michael Powell in Kyiv

LOOTING Russian soldiers have been caught on CCTV murdering two unarmed civilians at a business on the outskirts of Kyiv.

Footage of the incident in March shows the troops smoking and chatting calmly to security guard Leonid Pliats, 65, through the business’s locked gates. But when Mr Pliats and his boss turn and walk away, soldiers open fire, shooting the two men in the back multiple times.

Mr Pliats is seen staggering back to his security hut, where he phoned friends for help. But he bled to death before anyone could come to his rescue. While he lay dying, images show his killers looting the business, laughing and swigging whisky. Mr Pliat’s daughter Yulia Androshchuk told the BBC: ‘My dad was not a military man at all. He was a pensioner.

‘They killed a 65-year-old. What for? I’m not so much furious as full of grief – and fear.’ Ukraine’s prosecutor office is investigating the case as a war crime.
