Strachan given job to rebuild Dundee
GORDON Strachan is set to be handed responsibility for rebuilding Dundee after their relegation to the Championship. The former Celtic and Scotland boss will take on a new role as director of football at Dens Park. He will oversee the hiring of a new manager and will also be responsible for all playing department matters, including budget and player recruitment. Previously, Strachan, 65, had been a technical adviser with the remit of looking after the club’s youth development. However, he was handed a key role in selecting a successor for James McPake after the manager’s sacking in February. Dundee turned to Strachan’s former Aberdeen team-mate Mark McGhee as caretaker boss but he only won one match in 13 games in charge, Tuesday’s 3-1 win over visitors Hibs. St Johnstone’s 1-0 win over Aberdeen at McDiarmid Park on Wednesday night confirmed Dundee’s relegation to the second tier. Strachan is due to meet with McGhee after Sunday’s final league match against Livingston. But it looks likely that McGhee and his assistant Simon Rusk will leave ahead of the Strachan-led summer rebuild.
