OGREN’S UNITED CASH WARNING

- BY NEIL ROBERTSON

DUNDEE United owner Mark Ogren insists the club has to become self-sufficient as he can’t keep ploughing in millions. The American businessman has spent over £10million of his own money since taking charge at the end of 2018. The 59-year-old admits that figure is far higher than he initially allowed for, with factors such as Covid having a disastrous effect on revenue. However, with Tam Courts’ side hoping to finish fourth in the Premiership by beating Ross County in Dingwall today — and European football for next season already secured — Ogren is confident the club will soon start making a profit. ‘I have spent more money than I had anticipated,’ he said. ‘Some things were out of our control such as Covid. It’s very difficult to make money in Scottish football even when things are going well. But if you take the matchday revenue away then it’s disastrous. ‘So it’s been a rough go, but I can tell you I am really pleased with where we’re at. ‘We are going through our budgets right now and we expect to make money this year and expect to make money in the future.’ ‘Will the club have to become self-sufficient? Yes, it has to be because I am not willing to just continue to feed it.’
