Vettriano: I draw line at woke art
HE has faced some criticism over his film noir style depictions of scantily clad women.
But Scots artist Jack Vettriano, 70, is unconcerned about the prospect of being cancelled and has no plans to make his work more politically correct.
He told the Sunday Times: ‘People have called my work misogynistic but I can tell you that women are the biggest fans of my work and that I find very interesting.
‘I don’t apologise for what I have done and what I have painted. It is more or less autobiographical and I would argue that with anyone.
‘I am being honest with myself and I’m not prepared to stand in line and be politically correct.’
The most famous work by Fifeborn Vettriano, the Singing Butler, sold for £744,800 in 2004, setting what was then a world record for a Scottish painting.
He now spends much of his time in the south of France but is preparing to return to Kirkcaldy for an exhibition of his work.
Jack Vettriano: The Early Years, will be at Kirkcaldy Galleries from June to October.
