‘SCHOO’ FITS IN CAPITAL

-

GLASGOW Warriors have had a lot of overseas players who became fans’ favourites. Edinburgh less so. The Warriors have had the likes of Niko Matawalu, DTH van der Merwe, Leone Nakarawa and Josh Strauss. How brilliant, then, to see Pierre Schoeman capture the hearts of capital fans. The South African prop, who qualified for Scotland through residency, is by far the most popular player at the club — and convincing him to sign a three-year extension is a real boost for Edinburgh. The supporters cheer him on whenever he gets the ball. It’s funny to think that when he first arrived he thought they were shouting ‘boo’ rather than ‘Schoo’ every time he made a tackle. At the age of 28, he believes he can keep going at the top level for another ten years. And why not? His fellow South African-born prop W P Nel is still going strong for Edinburgh at 36.
