Stepping out in a bold backless gown, Lady Mary sparkles at US premiere

DOWNTON’S leading ladies proved they really are in a new era as they dazzled on the red carpet.

They put on an edgy display at the film sequel’s US premiere.

Michelle Dockery, 40, who stars as Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey: A New Era, led the way in an open-back silver Givenchy gown, worth £ ,000. She completed her look with gothic dark eye make-up.

Joanne Froggatt, who plays maid Anna Bates, flaunted her toned abs in a sequin black top and skirt. Her co-stars Elizabeth McGovern and Laura Carmichael were also at the New York event. The film, which is in cinemas now, is the second big screen adaptation of the ITV show.

The stars of another period drama also oozed glamour on the red carpet on Sunday. Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan and Simone Ashley were attending a US Netflix event.
