Nature’s bolts from the blue in display of raw power

- By John Paul Breslin

THERE were dramatic scenes in parts of the UK yesterday as a series of thunder storms rumbled in.

Lightning strikes lit up the skies in hues of pink and purple over Tennyson Down and Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight during the early hours of the morning.

And a photographer captured the moment a huge bolt from the blue struck near Portsmouth harbour.

Meanwhile, the landscape took on a mystical hue when a massive lightning storm formed over Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

The images emerged after the Met Office issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of the south of England, ahead of widespread rain showers which could trigger flooding.
