Drinks giant unveils built-in bottle caps
COCA-COLA is to build the caps into its plastic bottles to cut waste.
The move, which is a first for a major drinks firm, means the bottle and cap will be attached together, making for easier recycling.
Initially applying to 1.5litre bottles of Fanta, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Diet Coke, the switchover should be completed for all the firm’s British brands by early 2024.
‘This is a small change that we hope will have a big impact, ensuring that when consumers recycle our bottles, no cap gets left behind,’ said Jon Woods, head of Coca-Cola GB.
‘As the world’s biggest drinks company, we recognise that we have a leading role to play in pushing innovation and design to produce more high-quality recycled plastic.’
Last year the firm reached its target of using 100 per cent recycled plastic – excluding caps and labels – in all its smaller bottles.
