Pictured, boy of three killed in dog attack

- By James Tozer

A THREE-year-old boy mauled to death by a dog as he played near his home was named yesterday as Daniel John Twigg.

The ‘happy, kind and caring’ boy was with several dogs when he was found injured at a farm on Sunday. He died in hospital.

A man has handed himself into custody and is being questioned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

It is the fourth fatal attack on a child in seven months.

Police said a Cane Corso dog was destroyed. Legal to own, the mastiff breed is said to be descended from war dogs.

Greater Manchester Police has referred itself to the police watchdog as it had been called to previous incidents at the farm in Milnrow, Rochdale. Last night, Daniel’s family said he was ‘loved by all who knew him’.
