AND so, we say goodbye to Clare, Michelle, Erin, Orla and James (Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland and Dylan Llewellyn, pictured), the fearless friends at the heart of Lisa McGee’s brilliant hit sitcom, which has showed that life against the backdrop of the Troubles wasn’t all doom and gloom. Fittingly, the gang get to stretch their legs in this hour-long episode, set in 1998 in their final year at school, and there are big, huge, Earth-shattering events on the horizon. It’s Erin and Orla’s joint 18th birthday party, when the Derry Girls become Derry Women — but there’s the small matter of a referendum on the Good Friday Agreement, which is threatening to steal the girls’ thunder.
