Arundell handed slot in England training squad

- By CALUM CROWE

HENRY ARUNDELL has been named in England’s 36-man training squad to prepare for their summer tour of Australia. The young London Irish star also qualifies for Scotland and Wales, and will continue to do so until he makes a Test appearance for England. But Eddie Jones now appears to have convinced the 19-year-old where his future lies, with England set to play the Barbarians next month before a three-Test series in Australia in July. Arundell has been a revelation since bursting on to the scene and scored the try of the season in a Challenge Cup game against Toulon a couple of weeks ago. England head coach Jones likened him to Australia legend Matt Giteau, with Arundell now a possible bolter ahead of next year’s World Cup. ‘He has exceptional pace,’ said Jones. ‘He probably reminds me a lot of Matt Giteau in terms of his desire to attack. Not the way he plays, but his desire to attack. ‘We’re going to use this camp as an opportunity to prepare a base game for the Barbarians fixture and for a really important Australia tour. It is also 16 months to the World Cup and every minute counts. ‘We want to take a look at some younger players and prepare a base camp for the Barbarians game. These players will still be in contention for the Australia tour.’
