PERMANENT headquarters of the North Atlantic Council are to be set up in London as soon as possible. An official statement issued last night said that there would be a full staff of military, financial, and economic advisers.
Each of the 12 North Atlantic Treaty Governments has agreed to appoint a deputy to work regularly on the full-time organisation. This will enable the council to carry out its responsibilities and to exercise them continuously.

JOHN PRESCOTT was questioned yesterday by police investigating Wednesday’s brawl in which he punched egg-throwing protester Craig Evans.
Officers travelled from North Wales to his Hull constituency after asking him to find time for an interview in his election campaign schedule.

ELEANOR TOMLINSON, 30. The daughter of Emmerdale actor Malcolm Tomlinson played flamehaired Demelza in the BBC’s Poldark series. A natural ‘muddy blonde’, she said: ‘I’m going to stay ginge. I’ve established myself as a redhead now, I could never be quite as strong as a blonde. And who cares if it’s not natural?’

PETER MAyHEW (19442019). The 7ft 3in Londonborn actor — diagnosed with gigantism aged eight — played the furry sidekick Chewbacca in five Star Wars films, basing the Wookiee’s walk on the gait of gorillas in his local zoo.
