appears to be secretly pleased that her husband, property tycoon Nick Candy, failed in his bid to buy his beloved Chelsea football club, despite his consortium offering more than £2.5 billion.

‘I was very upset when we didn’t get it, but then my wife said: “You can have your life back now,”’ Candy tells me at a 30th anniversary party for Jonathan Shalit’s agency, Intertalent, at Bafta in Piccadilly, London.

‘I don’t think I’ll ever do a bid again for a football club. I might help with other bids, but I wouldn’t be a part of it.

‘I’m a Chelsea fan, so to have owned the club would have been amazing.’
