Advisers, said to include the PM’s wife Carrie, opposed Cain’s promotion to chief of staff, so he quit. But I can disclose that Cain, who worked closely with Dominic Cummings, made nearly £500,000 after leaving No 10. The first accounts for his new public relations business, Charlesbye Ltd, which counts the Premier League and Lottery operator Camelot among its clients, amassed assets of £479,000 in the 13 months to March, including £268,000 in cash. After paying a £147,000 tax bill and other creditors, it was still left with almost £300,000.
